Inspiration:
The shapes of spring iris blooms are very sensual and their scent is heavenly. My inspiration for this print is from a Japanese Edo painted screen of an iris garden in the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s Asian gallery. Too much of a good thing does not last long. Hence the Egyptian symbol for immortality- the beetle. This is the second "state" and is printed on blue Italian Magnani Pescia cotton rag etching paper. The third "state" includes aquatinted foliage- unlike this image.
