Columbine & Mantis (2010)
Media: Copper plate etching & aquatint
The praying mantis is proof that God has a sense of humor. His posture and attitude is defiant. The columbine stems echo the delicate and elongated legs of the mantis. The columbine’s blooms captured my attention because they are pendulous and quiver in the breeze. The strong horizontal mass of the background mountains and calm water is a great contrast to the busy vertical structure of the foreground.
